This is a female snapping turtle. I know it's a female because she had just finished laying her eggs.

My husband noticed it on the side of the road as he was driving around for work so he came and got me so I could take a picture.

By the time we got there she had finished laying her eggs and was headed back to the creek so I got a quick picture of her from the front since she was was too tired to be aggessive.

I love all the wildlife around here it's so nice to be so close to nature. :D

lol you know there used to be a bunch of snappers in the pond at my grandmas, but they were moved cause she lives so close to a highway and they kept getting hit. thats why i keep a big bin in the trunk of my car, so i can move it off the road or take it to a shelter if it is hurt. one time i found a small snapper with spray paint all over its shell!! it took them three weeks to get it all foo but it lived!! :la: yeah for teh shelters all over!!

She was lol. I'm very happy to live in a place like this as well. I'm about three blocks from lake Eerie and we have lots of woods and creeks so I can go canoeing any time I want to it's wonderful. :D
